Frequently asked questions
What is EXIF?
Hidden details a camera or phone writes into a photo: often the GPS location, phone model, date and time. Anyone who gets the original file can read them.
Will the photo quality change?
For most JPG and PNG photos, no — only the hidden details are cut out, the picture itself is not re-saved. Photos that depend on a “rotate” flag, and HEIC/WebP, are re-saved once at high quality so they stay upright.
Does WhatsApp remove location?
WhatsApp usually strips it when sending as a photo, but not when sending as a document. Email, Drive and many websites keep it. Cleaning first is the safe habit.
